I’ll keep this post short, because it is all actually very easy. Over the years, I have come to the view that improvement simply requires five elements:
1. Understand the process thoroughly
2. Make problems obvious
3. Empower people in the process to stop and fix the problems
4. Share learning at all levels
5. Leaders taking responsibility for developing people who are trained, motivated and supported to identify, solve and fix problems
All the tools and methodologies in the world are useless without these foundations. If management can deliver these things, the organisation will get better day by day.
